Why Not Wood is nestled in a small village in rural Lincolnshire, where our talented artisan woodturner, Mathew, works from our home workshop. This dedicated space provides the perfect environment for designing and crafting our beautiful handmade creations. Inspired by the natural world, Mathew incorporates smooth, gentle curves and flowing profiles into each unique piece.

Wood, being a natural material, ensures that every creation is one of a kind, with its own distinct colour and grain pattern. Mathew carefully selects the wood for its unique properties, skilfully crafting each piece to highlight the stunning natural figuring. Whenever possible, we prioritise using locally sourced timbers from sustainable sources, but we also enjoy working with a variety of exotic woods to create truly exceptional designs.​

As a self-taught woodturner with no formal artistic training, Mathew enjoys the creative freedom to design and craft unique, extraordinary items, limited only by his imagination. His inspiration comes from many places; conversations, simple images, or the broader beauty of the world around him.
